Artist and Organizer on the interactive video installation ”Min familie” (My family), A video consisting of 6 portraits of 6 different divorced families. With the child as the center of the story the project portrays and visualizes the development of the family: from a nuclear family it changes into a separated and larger, mixed family. Made in collaboration with Radiator Film. It was displayed at the video festival FOKUS at Kunsthal Nikolaj and at Kvindemuseet (Women’s Museum) in Aarhus.
Focusing on the separated and brought-together family, I wish to create a humoristic representation of families in our time with mothers and fathers – substitute mothers and substitute fathers – siblings and half-siblings.
A video consisting of 6 portraits of 6 different divorced families. (This video is made to be shown 1:1) With the child as the centre of the story I portray and visualize the development of the family: from a nuclear family it changes into separated and larger, mixed family.
A child enters and stands still on a white cross in the middle of a black room – then the child’s brothers and sisters enter the room, after them the biological parents follow – subsequently the stepparents, and the stepbrothers and stepsisters of the child. The family has grown: from a nuclear family into two families - they are still connected true the child, but are also separate from each other – and the child has now two families. One of the families leaves the room – and the child is seen together with the mother’s family; this is then repeated with the father’s family. In the end the child is once again alone in the room.
The project, which also can be perceived as a (re)union project, is a brief moment where past and future have to work together, and accordingly it mirrors the reality and everyday life of many children and young people.
